A Bizarre But Wondrous Christmas Tale by Roger Coleman

Welcome to the Pope and the Snowman's Official Website.

Snowman: The world is much larger outside .... Certainly you can see farther. I can't imagine what it must be like to be cooped up all the time.

Pope: It can get very dreary. I often find myself out of sorts. I'm always having to say no when I would rather say yes. Now it's no, no, no most of the time.

-from Scene II: In the Garden

A Special Note from the Pope

Thank you for visiting our web site. To be honest, when I first discovered the snowman trespassing in my private garden, I was irritated. I am a busy person and I don't have time for intrusions. Looking back, however, the snowman's visit has been one of the most remarkable encounters I have ever experienced. My life has been greatly changed by his arrival, for the better I might add.

I have encouraged Roger Coleman and illustrator Richard Becker to share The Pope and the Snowman* story with the hope that others might join me in the effort to make this a safer, more loving world for children everywhere.

It occurs to me that The Pope and the Snowman is more than a story about the miracle of my rebirth. It is a plea for people of all faiths and all nationalities to express their faith, not through words, but through very specific acts of compassion and generosity. What miracles wordless religion could bring to all of us.

Initially, my "Chidren's Crusade" was a response to the world poverty that harms so many children. That is what brought me to Darfur. However, I am now aware that the Church I love and the Church that exists to help children is also guilty of abusing them. May God forgive me and the Church for allowing this to happen. I am, therefore, returning immediately to Rome to put my own house in order and to personally minister to the innocent who have been harmed.

Please pray for me. Grant me the courage to again make the Church a protector of children.

The pope.

*I have been told that this book is growing in popularity as a "cult favorite." I'm not sure about this. The word "cult" bothers me. However, the snowman has assured me that this is a good thing and that I should be grateful they are talking about this book and not the Church. One has to have a lot of faith to live outside these garden walls.
